Full-day boat trip to Pigeon Key

Pigeon Key is a tiny sand cay reached on a long boat journey around Roatán. The ride offers broad views of the island and the vivid colors of its lagoons before the boat anchors for snorkeling around the cay.

Marine life can include nurse sharks and lemon sharks, and calm conditions may allow fishing at offshore banks for tuna, barracuda, mahi-mahi or wahoo. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

Roatán Iguana Farm

Started by a long-established island family, the sanctuary grew from an effort to protect iguanas from hunting and poaching. Visitors can see large numbers of free-moving iguanas, including mature animals that can reach impressive sizes.

Lunch at La Sirena in Camp Bay

Shore-access reef experience

Snorkeling in West Bay

The rocky end of West Bay provides access to reef habitat beyond the heavily visited shallows. Around the large offshore black rock, snorkelers can explore in either direction while staying aware of currents, reef depth and boat traffic.

The left side generally offers shallower soft corals and sea fans. To the right are reef crests, a broad sand channel and deeper reef toward the wall. Sea turtles and eagle rays are possible, but never guaranteed.

Safety first: Use a visible surface marker, snorkel with a partner, stay clear of boat lanes, never stand on coral and turn back before fatigue or current becomes a problem. A local guide is strongly recommended.

Gumbalimba Park

Gumbalimba Park in West Bay combines a tropical animal park with canopy and zipline experiences. Visitors can see free-roaming monkeys and macaws, an iguana garden, a turtle pond and a small museum with pre-Columbian and pirate-era displays.

The park also offers a pool, beach chairs and landscaped grounds. It is a strong choice for guests who want both wildlife and an active canopy experience in one outing.

Conditions around Roatán can change quickly. Local operators and guides should make the final decision about whether an activity is suitable on a particular day.

Check the forecast. Offshore trips should be confirmed close to departure because wind and waves can affect routes.
Protect the reef. Do not stand on, touch or collect coral, and use reef-conscious practices.
Watch for boats. Use a dive flag or bright surface marker and remain alert in areas with boat traffic.
Respect communities and wildlife. Follow local rules, ask before photographing residents and keep a safe distance from animals.
